365 Day Unseen Movie Marathon – Day 7 – MEGAMIND (2010)

Jan 07 2011 Published by under Film

Title: Megamind

Directed by: Tom McGrath

Written by: Alan J. Schoolcraft and Brent Simons

Current Flickchart position:  #418 of 1322 overall.  My #33 film, of 51, from the year 2010.

What It’s About:
The supervillain Megamind (Will Ferrell) finally conquers his nemesis, the hero Metro Man (Brad Pitt)… but finds his life pointless without a hero to fight.

General Comments:
Dreamworks has skated by on the Shrek name for far too long, especially when you consider just how shit all the Shrek movies are.  Thankfully Megamind is nothing like the terrible pop culture regurgitating animated films which everyone except Pixar make.  It’s a fun, sweet and funny movie featuring some outstanding voice work by Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Jonah Hill, David Cross (fuck yeah) and Brad Pitt.  It goes without saying that it’s nowhere near as good as Pixar’s work, but for a Dreamworks film it’s surprisingly good.

Both Will Ferrell and Tina Fey absolutely nail it.

Rating:  6.5/10

DATE NIGHT trailer

Nov 12 2009 Published by under Film

Well this not what I expected at all.  I’ve been looking forward to seeing something from Tina Fey and Steve Carell’s Date Night for a while now but I figured it’d just be a funny almost R rated comedy.  The trailer makes it seem like a romcom combined with Mr and Mrs Smith.  I’m still excited about it but in a whole different way.

I also loved the little bit of James Franco and Mila Kunis that was shown.  God I love those two.

New poster for THE INVENTION OF LYING

Sep 01 2009 Published by under Film

Ricky Gervais is a damn comedy genius, that much is proven by his creation of The Office and Extras, so I’m pretty excited about the upcoming flick The Invention of Lying.  Not only does it star Gervais but it also features my favourite stand-up comedian Louis C.K. and the amazing Tina Fey.

Here’s the new poster for the flick which is set to open on October 2nd (Nov 26th here in Oz).

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler reunite… for lunch

Jun 14 2009 Published by under Celebrities, Film

My two favourite comedic actresses, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, got together for lunch at Cafe Cluny in the West Village before Fey split off and headed to the set of Date Night.

These two really need to make another film together ‘cos I was really disappointed with Baby Mama .  Although I might have been in a bad mood when I was watching it because I was in Orlando on holiday and got a cold after visiting Discovery Cove.  I was stuck in bed for a couple of days and ended up ordering the flick in the room and had to watch it through shitty reception which kept distorting the image.  Maybe I should give it another watch.

Here are some photos from the set of the Tina Fey and Steve Carell flick Date Night.  Nothing special to write home about but I really like these two so something is better than nothing.

Three more added to the cast for DATE NIGHT

May 14 2009 Published by under Film

Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis

According to The Hollywood Reporter Ray Liotta, Mila Kunis and Mark Ruffalo are set to join Date Night.

Already cast are Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Mark Wahlberg, James Franco, Taraji P. Henson, Common, Leighton Meester, Kristen Wiig and Jimmi Simpson.  The film is directed by Shawn Levy who also directed Night at the Museum and its upcoming sequel.

The story follows a couple (Fey and Carell) who find their routine date night becomes much more than just dinner and a movie.

Tina Fey and Steve Carell were enough to get me excited about this flick, but with the three additions to a very impressive cast, this film is now shooting up my list of most anticipated films.  The film is set to open in April 2010.
