The first poster for Baz Luhrmann‘s upcoming drama The Great Gatsby has arrived.

The Great Gatsby follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Jason Clarke and Isla Fisher all star. The Great Gatsby opens December 25th.

Formerly known as Cogan’s Trade (which I think it a far cooler title), here’s the first poster for the upcoming crime drama Killing Them Softly starring Brad Pitt, James Gandolfini, Richard Jenkins, and Ray Liotta.

Jackie Cogan (Pitt) is an enforcer; and when the Mob’s rules get broken, he gets hired to ply his trade — murder. In the gritty, tough-talking pages of Higgins’s 1974 national best-seller, Cogan is called in when a high-stake card game under the protection of the Mob is heisted. Expertly, with a ruthless businessman’s efficiency, a shrewd sense of other people’s weaknesses, and a style as cold as his stare, Cogan moves with reliable precision to restore the status quo as ill-conceived capers and double-dealing shenanigans erupt into high-voltage violence.

The film is due to open on September 21st.

New poster for Aaron Sorkin’s THE NEWSROOM HollywoodHubbub

As a general rule I find Aaron Sorkin to be both overrated and preachy, but that doesn’t mean I’m not looking forward to checking out The Newsroom when it premieres on HBO on June 24th.

This new series centers on a cable news anchor (Jeff Daniels), his new executive producer (Emily Mortimer), his newsroom staff (John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Dev Patel, Olivia Munn) and their boss (Sam Waterston). Together they set out on a patriotic and quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles and their own personal relationships.

Here’s the first poster (lo-res only at the moment) for the upcoming horror remake Maniac starring Elijah Wood has arrived just ahead of the films premiere at Cannes.

Frank (wood), a victim of child abuse, owns a mannequin store, and is sought out by an artist named Anna (Nora Arnezeder) for help with her upcoming exhibition. Soon, scalping mannequins stirs Frank’s inner demons, unleashing a scornful serial killer who wants skin, not plastic.

Maniac is due to premiere at Cannes on May 26th so it won’t be long until some reviews start trickling out.

The first poster for Hyde Park on Hudson starring Bill Murray and Laura Linney shows Murray looking quite unlike himself.

In June 1939, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (Bill Murray) and his wife Eleanor (Olivia Williams) host the King and Queen of England (Samuel West, Olivia Colman) for a weekend at the Roosevelt home at Hyde Park on Hudson, in upstate New York – the first-ever visit of a reigning English monarch to America. With Britain facing imminent war with Germany, the Royals are desperately looking to FDR for support. But international affairs must be juggled with the complexities of FDR’s domestic establishment, as wife, mother, and mistresses all conspire to make the royal weekend an unforgettable one. Seen through the eyes of Daisy (Laura Linney), Franklin’s distant cousin, neighbor, and intimate, the weekend will produce not only a special relationship between two great nations, but, for Daisy – and through her, for us all – a deeper understanding of the mysteries of love and friendship.

Hyde Park on Hudson opens on December 7th in the US.

Here’s the first poster for the next James Bond instalment Skyfall starring Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes.

I’m a bit hesitant about getting excited for Skyfall just because of the letdown of Quantum of Solace after the very enjoyable Casino Royale.

After much delay Skyfall is due to open on November 9th in the US following an earlier release across Europe.

I’m a big fan of Flickchart and one of the things I really like about it is the multiple posters for all the films. It’s always a treat when I stumble onto a new poster for a favourite film of mine, and with the rise in popularity of fan made alternative/minimalist posters I thought I’d post some of my favourite amateur alternative posters for some of the films in the top 20 of my Flickchart.

The following films aren’t in my top 20 on Flickchart but what does it matter, they’re very impressive pieces of work.

Here’s the first poster for Leslye Headland’s upcoming comedy Bachelorette starring Kirsten Dunst, Lizzy Caplan, and Isla Fisher.

Regan (Dunst), an overachieving perfectionist, panics when she learns that her plus-size friend, Becky, is marrying a wealthy New Yorker. She enlists the rest of their old high school clique — ditzy beauty Katie (Fisher) and sarcastic drifter Gena (Caplan) — to aid in her duties as maid of honor.

The film got somewhat mixed reviews out of Sundance but I can’t remember why that was. It maybe had something to do with the women all being bitches or unsupportive, however I can’t be bothered to go back and search for reviews. I’m really hoping that Bachelorette delivers something a whole lot funnier than Kristen Wiig’s breakout comedy Bridesmaids, because I for one was very underwhelmed by Wiig’s movie last year. However, even if those early reviews of Bachelorette end up being a good analysis of the film, I’m still pretty excited to see it simply because Lizzy Caplan is involved.

ANCHORMAN 2 has a poster and a new name

ANCHORMAN 2 has a poster and a new name HollywoodHubbub

Woo hoo. My number 3 most anticipated film, Anchorman 2 now has a new title, Anchorman: The Legend Continues, and a pretty good teaser poster featuring the suited up legs of Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell), Brian Fontana (Paul Rudd), Champ Kind (David Koechner), Brick Tamland (Steve Carell).

Director Adam McKay has been tweeting bits and pieces but nothing specific, and despite rumours theorising that the sequel will be set around the time of the advent of the 24 hour news cycle, there’s nothing in the poster which suggests a time period.

Still, with a teaser trailer playing infront of The Dictator and now this teaser poster, it’s hard not to be super excited about the fact that we’re all finally going to see a sequel to one of the funniest and most commonly quotes films of all time.

I’m a very big fan of Broken Lizard and can watch Club Dread and The Slammin’ Salmon over and over. That’s why I was a little concerned when I saw the trailer for The Babymakers a while ago. It just wasn’t that funny. It’s also concerning that Olivia Munn isn’t a particularly good actress, and her appearances on The Daily Show have left a lot to be desired. Still, I’m willing to give it a chance based on the track record of Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske.

After failing to get his wife pregnant (Olivia Munn), a guy (Paul Schneider) recruits his pals to steal the deposit he left at a sperm bank years ago.
