OK, first thing’s first, I love Joseph Gordon-Levitt.  He’s by far my favourite actor.  I mean it isn’t even close.  Second, Seth Rogen is perhaps my second favourite comedic actor behind Will Ferrell.  With that in mind it’s pretty clear that I was always going to like 50/50.  You add in the cute and wonderful Anna Kendrick, plus Bryce Dallas Howard playing a mean-spirited bitch, and it all adds up to a wonderful film.

The film tells the story of Adam (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who’s diagnosed with cancer, how he attempts to cope with this diagnosis, and his struggle to overcome the disease with the help of his best friend Kyle (Seth Rogen) and his trainee therapist (Anna Kendrick).

It was pretty much a given that Gordon-Levitt and Kendrick would give good performances, Angelica Huston was good too as the overemotional and annoying mother that Adam just wanted to avoid, but I was impressed by Seth Rogen.  He hasn’t played that many semi-serious roles so far in his career, except in Observe and Report and Funny People, but it’s always a treat when he does.  He has the ability to be funny and serious at the same time, if that makes sense, and in 50/50 that ability is put to good use because he comes across like a best friend would do in that situation.  Trying to lighten up his friend and make him feel like it’s not all bad.  I also loved how Kyle fired into Rachael (Bryce Dallas Howard) after he caught her out and told Adam.

It was also pretty cool to have Philip Baker Hall and Matt Frewer in the film.

Ultimately, I think the film did a wonderful job showing what someone might go through if they were diagnosed with cancer.  The world doesn’t end, they still have friends, they still have family, they still laugh, and there are people in their lives who will try and make it OK.

And spoiler alert, I absolutely loved loved loved the ending because I truly didn’t think that Adam and Katherine would end up together just because of the whole doctor/patient relationship thing.

There’s some new footage in here but I think overall I prefer the first trailer.  That one still has comedic bits, but it doesn’t shy away from the inherent drama in the story.

So it’s with great delight that I now get to see a trailer for the upcoming indie drama starring my favourite actor, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, along with Natalie Portman and Rainn Wilson.

Hesher is due to open sometime in April.

Bruce Willis has signed on to star alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt (my absolute favourite actor) in Rian Johnson’s sci-fi flick Looper.

Bruce Willis is joining the cast ofLooper, a science fiction time travel tale that reunites the Brick team of Joseph Gordon-Levitt and writer/director Rian Johnson. The Terminator-esque action film has a clever premise. Loopers are hit men whose victims are sent back in time from the future to be executed. The Loopers bump them off in the present, so there is no trace of a crime in the future. I’m told that Willis and Gordon-Levitt will play the same character, in those different time frames. That ploy is also being used in Men in Black 3, with Josh Brolin playing the younger version of Tommy Lee Jones’s Agent Kay. CAA is repping North American rights, and FilmNation Entertainment is repping it. Insiders said it is not being shopped at this fest. But buyers are all over it.

I remember hearing the title Looper a while back as something Rian Johnson was working on and being a huge fan of Brick (currently #18 on my Flickchart) I was curious as to what it was about.  The premise sounds pretty damn cool and JGL reteaming with Johnson has me super excited about the project.  After Brick and The Brothers Bloom I’m hoping that Johnson makes it 3 for 3.

I have no doubt that this will probably be my favourite film of 2010.  How can it not be.  Leonardo DiCaprio and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are two of my absolute favourite actors and all Christopher Nolan does is make breathtaking films.  July 16th can’t come quick enough.

I’ve yet to see the flick but my anticipation for it hasn’t dipped in the slightest.  Hopefully I’ll get a chance to see in before the end of the year.
