Title: Freakonomics

Directed by: Heidi Ewing, Alex Gibney, Seth Gordon, Rachel Grady, Eugene Jarecki and Morgan Spurlock

Written by: Peter Bull & Alex Gibney, Jeremy Chilnick & Morgan Spurlock, Eugene Jarecki, Heidi Ewing & Rachel Grady, Seth Gordon, and Steven Levitt & Stephen Dubner

Current Flickchart position:  #529 of 1334 overall.  My #38 film, of 55, from the year 2010.

What It’s About:
Some of the world’s most innovative documentary filmmakers will explore the hidden side of everything.

General Comments:
My first degree is in social science so that area holds some appeal for me.  That being said, Freakonomics is a pretty fun and interesting social science and economics based documentary that I think most people would find at least mildly entertaining and informative.  Some of the segments are more appealing and thought-provoking than others, but the film is enjoyable enough.

Watch this film for the segments on naming your children and the role of incentives in society.

Rating:  6/10

COURTING CONDI trailer

Aug 04 2009 Published by under Film

Oh my God this looks so fucking awesome.

Courting Condi follows Devin Ratray (best known as Buzz from Home Alone) a besotted admirer of Condoleezza Rice, as he prepares to meet her.  It’s described as a musical-docu-tragi-comedy.

It’s due for release on 31st August.

IT MIGHT GET LOUD premiere

It Might Get Loud had it’s Los Angeles premiere at the Los Angeles Film Festival today and a bunch of cool people turned up including JJ Abrams, Elisabeth Shue, Jack White, and Jimmy Page.

The documentary looks at electric guitar from the point of view of three significant rock musicians: the Edge (U2), Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) and Jack White (The White Stripes).

The involvement of these three really makes this something I’m interested in.  I think that Led Zeppelin are the greatest rock band we’ve ever seen, and The White Stripes and U2 are both bands which continue to shape the musical environment.  I hadn’t even heard of this project before but thinking about it I’m pretty excited to see it.

Teaser for Michael Moore’s next

Jun 13 2009 Published by under Film

Love him or hate him, everyone has an opinion on Michael Moore.  I really enjoy his ultra-leftist approach to politics, sometimes because I agree with him and sometimes simply for comedic value.

Here’s the teaser for Moore’s unnamed documentary which will explore the root causes of the global economic meltdown and take a comical look at the corporate and political shenanigans that culminated in what Moore described as “the biggest robbery in the history of this country” – the massive transfer of U.S. taxpayer money to private financial institutions.

Personally, I thought this teaser was terrible.
