365 Day Unseen Movie Marathon – Day 34 – SEX & DRUGS & ROCK & ROLL (2010)

Title: Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll

Directed by: Mat Whitecross

Written by: Paul Viragh

Current Flickchart position:  #591 of 1349 overall.  My #43 film, of 60, from the year 2010.

What It’s About:
A biography of Ian Dury who was stricken with polio at a young age and defied expectations by becoming one of the founder of the punk-rock scene in Britain in the 1970s.

General Comments:
I know the name Ian Dury but beyond that I have no knowledge of his music, bands, history or influence, and therefore I have no clue how accurate the film is.  I will say that it was mildly interesting and entertaining, and Andy Serkis was very impressive in the first live action thing I’ve seen in him.  Overall the film is well made, I just didn’t find it particularly interesting.  It probably didn’t help that I’m not a fan of punk rock.

Watch Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll to get a gauge of what British punk rock was like in the 70′s, to see a pretty decent drama, and for a great performance by Andy Serkis.

Rating:  5.5/10

This may be new, although I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this image before, but here’s another poster for Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning’s upcoming rock biopic The Runaways.

Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett for THE RUNAWAYS

Jun 12 2009 Published by under Celebrities, Film

I might as well use my Bauer-Griffin account.

Here are some snaps of Kristen Stewart decked out as Joan Jett on her way to rehearsals for The Runaways at Sunset Sound on June 11th.

I’ve developed a fascination of Stewart ever since I saw Into The Wild.  I thought she was amazing in that film, and no matter how shitty Twilight was I still like her.  She looks stoned and kinda pissed off in the last one which is surprising because I didn’t think potheads could get angry.

Who’s gonna play SINATRA

May 15 2009 Published by under Film

johnny_depp1_300_400Nikki Finke is reporting that whilst Martin Scorsese may want Leonardo DiCaprio to fill the title role of Frank Sinatra, Universal is so thrilled with Johnny Depp’s performance in the upcoming Public Enemies that they want him as the lead.

I really enjoy both of these actors in just about everything they do, but I think in this case that Johnny Depp would be the better choice.

Scorsese to direct Sinatra biopic

Frank Sinatra

Frank Sinatra

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Universal has acquired “Sinatra”, written by Phil Alden Robinson, and is to be directed by Martin Scorsese.

His proposed Dean Martin biopic “Dino” has been in development hell for years now, but it is thought that the research done for that project will inform “Sinatra.”

The Hollywood Reporter writes:
“With the artistic and social life he led, Sinatra’s personal history is perfectly tailored for dramatic storytelling. Born in Hoboken, N.J., and raised during the Depression, he built a singing career that weathered many changes in popular culture, all the while racking up 31 gold records and countless other honors.

He also had a successful career as an actor, proving naysayers wrong by earning an Oscar for 1953′s “From Here to Eternity.”  His personal life was just as eventful. He suffered from depression, was alleged to have connections to organized crime and was married four times; two of his wives were Ava Gardner and Mia Farrow.
