Title: Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll
Directed by: Mat Whitecross
Written by: Paul Viragh
Current Flickchart position: #591 of 1349 overall. My #43 film, of 60, from the year 2010.
What It’s About:
A biography of Ian Dury who was stricken with polio at a young age and defied expectations by becoming one of the founder of the punk-rock scene in Britain in the 1970s.
General Comments:
I know the name Ian Dury but beyond that I have no knowledge of his music, bands, history or influence, and therefore I have no clue how accurate the film is. I will say that it was mildly interesting and entertaining, and Andy Serkis was very impressive in the first live action thing I’ve seen in him. Overall the film is well made, I just didn’t find it particularly interesting. It probably didn’t help that I’m not a fan of punk rock.
Watch Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll to get a gauge of what British punk rock was like in the 70′s, to see a pretty decent drama, and for a great performance by Andy Serkis.
