Don’t tar Kristen Stewart with the Twilight brush

Nov 30 2009 Published by under Celebrities, Film

Into the Wild

With the release of New Moon two weeks ago I’ve been hearing and reading a bunch of reviews about how terrible it is and I have no doubt they’re all true.  My problem lies with the fact that Kristen Stewart seems to be getting a fair share of criticism, with the main complaint being that she’s a bad actress.  To me that’s not right.

I saw Twilight and was truly shocked by how bad it was in every respect and it’s for this reason alone that I won’t be watching New Moon.  I also accept that Stewart was pretty damn ordinary in Twilight, but I don’t believe for one second that she’s a bad actress.  She was captivating in Into the Wild, one of my absolute favourite movies of all time and she was equally good in Adventureland (my #1 movie so far this year).  I really think that her performance in the Twilight movies is a combination of bad direction, a terrible supporting cast, an inane story, and Bella being such a whining needy spoiled emo bitch.

In addition, don’t let all the media coverage of her fool you, she isn’t Lindsay Lohan.  She does have talent.  Plus she seems to be genuinely painfully shy when giving interviews or appearing on talk shows.  That to me indicates that she’s not an attention whore like Lohan.  I hate to come across all Chris Crocker, but it just seems unfair to heap the bulk of the complaints about how terrible the Twilight films are at her feet when she’s done some great work.

Just remember that she does other movies and not just shitty tween angst “vampire” flicks.  Check out her IMDB.

Below is a video showing her singing in Into the Wild.  I actually think the non-singing stuff she does in the film is better but I couldn’t find any footage.

Suicidegirls.com is awesome

I know this in no way has anything to do with TV or film but I don’t care.  I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to discover suicidegirls.com.

The site is heaven for guys like me who like naked girls with some tattoos.  As a warning, yeah they are for the most part naked, some just top only, but I really wouldn’t go so far as to call it a porn site.  They’re really just alternative pinups for our generation.

I recommend checking it out.  You can sign up for a $47.95 for the year and it works out to be a little under $4 per month.

And yeah, the banner pic is the cleanest one I could find in their free tour gallery.

The distinct lack of posts

Nov 27 2009 Published by under Uncategorized

For anyone that actually visits my little blog with any kind of regularity I’m sorry for the lack of posts in recent weeks.  I’ve been swamped with uni work in preparation for my exams.  They’re all done now so hopefully I’ll be able to spend some time with my blog.

I’ve planned to do a Top 10 of 2009 (like everyone does) around the middle of December and I’m gonna do my Top 100 for the decade as well.  I’m trying to fit in a bunch of films by then so that my list is a little better.

LOVERS IN A DANGEROUS TIME trailer

Nov 18 2009 Published by under Film

I just found this trailer for Lovers in a Dangerous Time on Youtube and was blown away by it.  It looks to be a beautiful story of childhood, growing up and finding love.  Those are all themes that I think everyone can relate to.

According to IMDB it’s only played at two film festivals so far.  The Okanagan International Film Festival in Canada in April and the Tallgrass Film Festival in the US in October.  I really hope that I get a chance to see this at some point.  I was really impressed by what I saw in the trailer.

Check out the trailer below and head on over to the official site here.

Hell yes. Justin Theroux set to join PARKS & RECREATION

Nov 17 2009 Published by under TV

Justin Theroux

OMG.  Justin Theroux, one of my absolute favourite actors/writers/producers, is set to join Parks and Recreation, the best comedy on TV right now, as a major recurring character.

Theroux was the only good thing about Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, and was fantastic in Mulholland Drive too.  Not to mention that he wrote Tropic Thunder and the upcoming Iron Man 2.  I’m so damn excited about this.  The only downer about the whole thing is that he’s slated to be a love interest for Leslie (Amy Poehler) which means that Louis C.K. won’t be around much longer.

Best of the Week: 8th-14th Nov (Twitter style)

Nov 17 2009 Published by under TV

A weekly post with the purpose of highlighting the shows I watched during the week and how I ranked them.  It’s not intended as a list of all shows on the air, only those that I actually watched during the week.  Watching something on Monday that aired on Friday won’t make the cut.

Like everything on this site it’s for my own enjoyment but feel free to comment.

BestoftheWeek8-14Nov

Due to time constraints concerning my damn Uni commitments this installment of Best of the Week will be in Twitter style 160 characters form.

1.  Survivor “Tastes Like Chicken” (19×09) – Russell survived yet again.  Another Idol, really? Laura is pissed because he’s better than her.  Hope that bitch goes next.  9/10

2.  South Park “Dances With Smurfs” (13×13) – About time someone took on that asshole Glenn Beck.  I hate him so damn much.  Nice nod to Avatar too. Definite improvement over recent eps.  8.5/10

3.  How I Met Your Mother “The Rough Patch” (5×07) – Finally Robin & Barney broke up. They weren’t the same together. Loved the fat suit showing how the gang perceived Barney.  Roll on ep 100.  7.5/10

4.  30 Rock “The Problem Solvers” (4×05) – About as close to a Liz/Jack romance as there will be. Great ep. Loved the new guy.  “Who said I’ve been alive forever”. Classic.  8/10

5.  Fringe “Of Human Action” (2×07) – OK, but still not enough mythology for my liking.  This week’s Observer-centric ep should fix that though.  7/10

6.  Community “Debate 109″ (1×09) – Finally Jeff & Annie kissed. Not meaningful in any way so far, but hopefully they’ll hook up & not Jeff & Britta. Abed continues to rock.  6.5/10

7.  Dexter “Slack Tide” (4×07) – Last season it was a brother replacement, this season it’s a father replacement. Get over it Dexter and kill Trinity already. Rita too.  5.5/10

8.  The League “Sunday at Ruxin’s” (1×03) – Only watch because of Katie Aselton and the funny character of Taco. Any guy who has a Genesis is cool in my book.  5/10

GROWN UPS trailer

Nov 13 2009 Published by under Film

I’ve been hanging for a while to see something from Grown Ups and now we have the new trailer.

Would you look at all those SNL guys back together.  This is a must see for me even if it turns out to be pretty average.  I love the 90′s SNL guys so having them all together along with Salma Hayek and Maria Bello should be great.

Another new KICK-ASS poster emerges

Nov 12 2009 Published by under Film

The four characters posters for Kick-Ass that came out were cool, especially when they’re all lined up together, but I like this one too.  It shows some of the grit which I hope makes the transition from the comic to the film.

DATE NIGHT trailer

Nov 12 2009 Published by under Film

Well this not what I expected at all.  I’ve been looking forward to seeing something from Tina Fey and Steve Carell’s Date Night for a while now but I figured it’d just be a funny almost R rated comedy.  The trailer makes it seem like a romcom combined with Mr and Mrs Smith.  I’m still excited about it but in a whole different way.

I also loved the little bit of James Franco and Mila Kunis that was shown.  God I love those two.

The KICK-ASS teaser is pretty kick ass

Nov 12 2009 Published by under Film

I’ve only read the first three issues of Kick-Ass but when I heard a while back that they were doing a movie I had a real hard time believing that it would be as brutal and violent as the comic.  I still don’t know if it will be but the teaser fills me with anticipation for the flick.  Especially the adorable Chloe Moretz as Hit Girl.

It’s such a shame I have to wait until April.
